Release notes

GoodEye Shoot Ingest is now PitStop. Same app, same settings — the name caught up with what it had become over four days of a three-photographer conference. Everything below was built on those cards.

• ·A card opens PitStop even when PitStop is not running. It used to need the app already open in the menu bar; now macOS starts it the moment a card mounts
• ·“Done” is not said while a card is still in the machine. When cards eject automatically, the notification waits for them to come out and reads “cards ejected · safe to remove” — pulling a card on the old “ingest complete” is how one eject failed
• ·Every mounted card is listed, even an empty one, drawn grey and marked “· empty” — so a freshly formatted card says the reader works, rather than looking like it was never seen
• ·Each card is its own progress bar while it is being read: a fast CFexpress and a slow SD side by side each show their own percentage, so you know which one you are still waiting on
• ·Each shoot row is a Cover Flow over the whole take — flick through every photo of a shoot, not the first ten. A shoot you have not copied yet is drawn large; archived ones sit small and grey as a record
• ·Choose… now replaces the Copy to path every time (the field could quietly put the old folder back)
• ·A card error goes away when that card does, and can be dismissed by hand
• ·Fixed: “PitStop is open but I don’t see it” — a window quit while minimised came back minimised on every launch, and Open PitStop did not un-minimise it. It does now
• ·Updating from GoodEye Shoot Ingest: settings, your destination and the camera-to-photographer memory carry across on first launch. Re-tick Open Automatically in the menu bar once — macOS keeps that setting per app name

Built live on day one of a four-day conference with three photographers and ten camera bodies dumping into one day folder.

• ·Multi-photographer mode: point Copy to at a day folder holding one folder per photographer and the app reads the roster off your own folder names. Which photographer shot what is decided by the camera body’s serial number, learned from the day’s own folders — nobody is asked twice
• ·Each dump lands in its own ingest folder inside the photographer’s folder, ready for a culling pass before the keepers move up. The folder is reused while it is empty and a new one opens only when it still holds work
• ·A mid-event re-dump reads as “15 already copied · 580 to copy”, not a warning that a card was missed
• ·Every eject is written down: a left-on-cards.txt in your destination records what each card left with, so the question “did I get everything off everyone’s cards?” has an answer after the cards are back in their bags. The eject question itself now names the dates of anything not yet copied
• ·Copy rate and time remaining while a card is being read, measured over the last few seconds rather than the whole run
• ·Working out which cameras are on a card no longer opens every photo on it — three per camera folder — so a slow SD card no longer holds up its own eject

The 1.2 line, built for a job where several photographers hand over cards that all say DSC_0412.

• ·A camera filename is no longer treated as an identity. Two photographers’ DSC_0412 never cross-file: a photo is recognised by its name and the size and capture time recorded when it was copied
• ·The camera body’s serial number is recorded per photo. The folder dropdown marks folders shot on the same camera, and a soft warning appears when a folder’s cameras and the card’s cameras have nothing in common
• ·RAW files by default, with a JPEG opt-in per card — a JPEG backup card no longer floods the list with thousands of files
• ·A brand-new shoot row can be clicked to name it (it used to be a dead end)
• ·Two folders that together hold everything read as done, not “Partial”
• ·A split suggestion never blocks an ingest, and stops firing on a re-dump
• ·A sound when the cards come out

Two shoots at the same spot, back to back — the case a clock can never get right.

• ·When a run of photos is already filed under another shoot's name, the app now says so and offers to split them off in one click — no guessing at gap settings, because the folders themselves are the proof
• ·It holds off on copying while that split is pending, so the same photos can't land in two folders under two different names
• ·A mid-event card dump is left alone: that is one job continuing, not two shoots, and it is never offered a split

Tuned on a real headshot day, where the mid-session break is part of the job.

• ·Shoots split on an hour of silence now, not thirty minutes — a break between headshot waves no longer cuts one job into two rows. The scissors menu still separates anything shot closer together
• ·The folder and filename dropdowns get a much bigger click target — the chevron was easy to miss

The end of a card day is now: plug in, name it, press Enter, pull the cards.

• ·Enter starts the ingest the moment the window opens — no clicking into the window first
• ·After the copy verifies: a notification, the cards eject, and nothing else. No Finder window stealing focus (hover any archived shoot for one-click open when you do want it)

Two things from a real card day.

• ·No more false alarms after your camera's frame counter wraps past 9999: the same number from an earlier lap still on the card is recognised as a different shoot, not a conflict. (A genuine collision inside one shoot still warns.)
• ·Eject when done is now on by default — plug in, name, Ingest, and the cards unmount themselves once every file is verified. It still asks first if anything on a card is not yet copied.

Shoot notes, same-day release. Type what you remember while it is fresh — the light, the moments, what they said — and it travels with the photos.

• ·Notes field under the naming form: whatever you type is saved as a plain notes.txt beside the photos, for the blog post or caption you will write weeks later
• ·Save note button adds to a shoot you already ingested — no re-copy, the thought can arrive after the cards are back in the bag
• ·With no card plugged in, the window shows your recent shoots greyed, each with its note readable and appendable
• ·Recent shoots are listed in shooting order — two jobs on one day sort by when the photos were taken, not by name
• ·Notes are mirrored to the second copy, written before the copy starts, and never overwrite or duplicate on a resume
• ·Folder dates in other formats (2026-08-14, 20260814) are recognised, and new-shoot prefills learn your archive's own convention
• ·Fixed: the app could start invisible when launched any way other than a double-click; fixed a dead keyboard after self-update; note fields now always focus on click

First public release, after weeks of ingesting real jobs — dual Nikon bodies, a drone, a Hasselblad, three-shoot days and mid-event re-dumps.

• ·Opens by itself when a card is plugged in (menu-bar resident, off by default until you turn it on)
• ·Splits a card into shoots by capture time; a month of backlog reads in a quarter of a second
• ·Pools every mounted card, so a two-body or camera-plus-drone job arrives as one shoot
• ·Recognises shoots already in your archive — including ones you have culled hard — and never re-copies or restores them
• ·Rename on the way in: folder + filenames, camera numbering always kept; naming is optional per shoot
• ·Every file verified byte for byte: hashed off the card, written, read back and compared, with a manifest in every folder
• ·Tick several rows to ingest them as one job; scissors to split two jobs shot back-to-back
• ·Cancel any time — everything copied is kept, and Ingest again resumes exactly where it stopped
• ·Optional second copy to a backup drive in the same pass, both destinations verified (Settings, off by default)
• ·Eject from the app, with a warning naming anything not yet archived; optional auto-eject when a copy finishes
• ·Cards are read-only, always — nothing is ever written to or deleted from a card
